Poondhamallee Varadharaja Perumal temple

Poondhamallee (in Chennai) is the birth place of Sri Thirukkachi Nambigal. a devotee of Varadharaja perumal of Kancheepuram. He used to travel daily from poondhamallee to Kancheepuram for Pushpa and Aalavatta Kainkaryam. At his old age, when he fell ill and could not go to temple, the Varadharaja perumal himself came down to his place to enable him to perform his duties. He had the power to speak with Varadharaja perumal.
There is a legend that the goddess Mahalakshmi rose from jasmine flowers and gave darshan to Sri Thirukachi nambigal. Sri Varadharaja perumal, Sri Venkatesa perumal and Sri Ranganatha perumal gave darshan to Sri Thirukachi nambigal at one place here.
The temple is around 1000 years old. There is a strong belief that sun god and Mars worshipped the Lord of this temple.
A festival for Thirukachi Nambigal is celebrated every year in the month of feb –march (that is tamil month of Masi) in a grand manner.
The main dieties are Sri Varadharaja perumal, Sri Venkateswara perumal and Sri Ranganatha perumal, Sthala Thayar is Pushpavalli Thayar. A seperate sannaidhi is also there for Sri Thirukachi nambigal. The temple is very near to poondhamallee bus stand.
